The Crown Jewels of an Empire



At the heart of Catherine's collection lies the Russian Imperial Crown, a breathtaking masterpiece created for her 1762 coronation by court jeweler Jérémie Pauzié. Crafted in the Byzantine style, this crown features two gold and silver half-spheres adorned with 75 pearls and 5,000 Indian diamonds, representing resilience and power. Topped with a 398.63 - carat ruby spinel and a diamond cross, it weighs over 5 pounds - symbolizing the grandeur of the Russian Empire. This historic crown now resides in the Kremlin Armoury, standing as a testament to the empress's grandeur.


Another legendary piece, the Imperial Scepter, highlights the Orlov diamond - a 189.62 - carat rarity from India's Golconda region. Presented to Catherine by her lover Count Grigory Orlov, the stone reflects her penchant for extraordinary treasures. Its original rose-cut style adds to mystique, making it one of history's most significant gems.

Emerald Elegance: A Necklace with a Story



Catherine's love for emeralds is evident in her collection. One standout piece featured a 107-carat rectangular emerald, later cut into a pear shape by Cartier in 1927. This jewel was transformed into a diamond necklace and passed through the hands of private collectors, eventually selling at Christie's in 2019 for over $4 million.


In 2010, another emerald from Catherine's collection - a hexagonal - cut brooch framed by rose - cut diamonds - fetched an astonishing $16.5 million at Christie's. These pieces highlighted her enduring influence on the world of fine jewelry.



The Bow Necklace: Timeless Sophistication


One of Catherine's most distinctive pieces was a diamond necklace with a bowknot clasp, commissioned between 1760 and 1780. The empress often wore the necklace and clasped together or separately, highlighting her flair for versatility. The necklace was auctioned in 2016 by Sotheby's in Geneva, continuing its journey through time.

A Watch Fit for an Empress



Catherine's collection also included a unique diamond and ruby pendant watch, featuring intricate star and sunburst motifs. This extraordinary piece is now housed at the Hillwood Estate Museum in Washington, D.C., preserving her legacy in the world of luxury and art.
